With just four ingredients, it’s a lot simpler than you think to give the gift of a spa-like treatment to a friend of relative deserving of a little relaxation. This “recipe” makes around 2 1/3 cups of the exfoliating scrub, but it’s so easy to multiply that you may easily find yourself making a jar for every name on your list.
- 2 cups of Epsom salts
- 1 cup carrier oil
- 8 drops essential oil(s)
- 1 drop food colouring
- Canning jars
- Stir together the Espsom salts and carrier oil in a medium bowl, blending them thoroughly.
- Using a dropper or plastic pipette, add essential oil, 1 drop at a time. Add food colouring (a shade that complements your chosen oil is best), and stir until the colour is evenly distributed.
- Spoon the desired amount into canning jars.
- Design or download a template for labels – one to affix to the lid of the jar, and one for the body. If possible, print labels onto ink-jet-bumper-sticker paper, to help the labels stand up to water.
For a scrub with a finer grain, you can replace the Epsom salts with organic cane sugar in the same amount.
