Relaxing Body Scrub

With just four ingredients, it’s a lot simpler than you think to give the gift of a spa-like treatment to a friend of relative deserving of a little relaxation. This “recipe” makes around 2 1/3 cups of the exfoliating scrub, but it’s so easy to multiply that you may easily find yourself making a jar for every name on your list.

  • 2 cups of Epsom salts
  • 1 cup carrier oil
  • 8 drops essential oil(s)
  • 1 drop food colouring
  • Canning jars
  1. Stir together the Espsom salts and carrier oil in a medium bowl, blending them thoroughly.
  2. Using a dropper or plastic pipette, add essential oil, 1 drop at a time. Add food colouring (a shade that complements your chosen oil is best), and stir until the colour is evenly distributed.
  3. Spoon the desired amount into canning jars.
  4. Design or download a template for labels – one to affix to the lid of the jar, and one for the body. If possible, print labels onto ink-jet-bumper-sticker paper, to help the labels stand up to water.

For a scrub with a finer grain, you can replace the Epsom salts with organic cane sugar in the same amount.
